Pink Elephanturnip - CDC 'Veggie animal'

The elusive Pink Elephanturnip is a small animal from the Neoelephantidae family, usually found living in vegetable patches from April to October in temperate climates.

To achieve perfect camouflage to hide from predators, this species has developed a symbiosis with a tiny yellow flower-shaped moth species.

The Pink Elephanturnip produces a nectar-like substance from glands at the tips of their sprout-shaped crest to feed the moths, which complete the camouflage and deter predators by creating a sudden swarm in return.

However, as discreet as these animals may be, a few people managed to observe them after drunkenly passing out in vegetable gardens and waking up in front of a Pink elephanturnip specimen, hence the popular saying: « seeing pink elephants »
